Teri and Ken Pulvino (picturebelow - courtesy of Miguel Maldonado) want John Muir admirers and all visitors to Yosemite National Park to have a chance to join in the fun of the John Muir Highway Festival (picture above from the 2010 Dedication Ceremony - courtesy of Al Golub).

Ken and Teri found themselves constantly amazed at the beauty of Greeley Hill, CA, since buying part of their Birders Homestead Ranch in 2001.  Reading about Muir’s first walk to Yosemite Valley in 1868 and then his journals – My First Summer in the Sierra – recalling his famous amble from San Francisco to Yosemite, they learned that he was witness to much of the same natural grandeur still existing along the now dedicated John Muir Highway.

The expansion of the John Muir Highway Geotourism Project is dedicated to honoring John Muir while creating a virtual community for exploring with more fulfilling trips for visitors to Yosemite Valley by offering them a chance to have Muir’s experience – as described in his journals – become a part of their experience as they travel to Yosemite National Park.

In 2010, they donated an 81 acre parcel of their Birders Homestead Ranch to The Sierra Foothill Conservancy as the cornerstone for preserving the ecosystems that John Muir admired so much and gloried in his journals.  The next phase of their contributions include a proposal to the John Muir Center at the University of the Pacific for a research grant to establish a Visitor Center and Geotourism research project to study the impact of this new and very promising approach to cultural heritage tourism.

We support the John Muir Highway Geotourism project and our mission is to honor John Muir’s vision. As an organization dedicated to preserving nature around Yosemite National Park region, we promote any and all events related to John Muir’s history in the area, and enhancing the quality-of-life of the residents of the region, with emphasis on long-term planning for the benefit of future generations.

We welcome your participation and feedback with ideas that can improve our dream.  Please continue to check the web site for announcements about the $2 million fund raising campaign and research activities as well as the detail on the 2011 John Muir Highway celebration.
